Mariah Carey stated that she struggled to keep the news a secret. She also said that they have yet to find out the gender of the baby and that she conceived naturally.
Mariah Carey added that she had been pregnant shortly after her wedding with Nick Cannon, but that she miscarried. Mariah Carey and Cannon decided to keep the matter private. The public speculated that Carey accidentally revealed that the couple were expecting twins during an radio interview by referring to the child as 'they', however, Cannon refused to say how many babies his wife was expecting to E! News, but admitted that by saying 'they', Mariah 'wasn't wrong'.
On December 16, 2010, Nick Cannon announced that he and Mariah Carey were in fact going to have twins.
On February 1, 2011, Mariah Carey confirmed that the twins were one girl and one boy.
On April 30, 2011, the couple's third wedding anniversary, Carey gave birth to fraternal twins.
Mariah Carey delivered the babies Saturday at 9:07 a.m. at an undisclosed hospital in Los Angeles. Mariah Carey’s representative, Cindi Berger, confirmed the births to The Associated Press, saying the baby girl was born first, weighing 5 lbs., 3 oz. and is 18 inches long; her brother was next at 5 lbs., 6 oz. and is 19 inches long.
